I like the concept of ignoring your creativity doesn’t make it disappear but actually makes it grow inside you more but negatively, internal resentment you just ignore.
I’ve learned, the hard way, that silence isn’t peace when your inner voice is screaming to be heard. Thank you for getting it so deeply. And thank you for commenting ☺️
Thank you so much for the encouragement and kind words, it truly means a lot. :)
I’ve learned to stop running from imposter syndrome and instead welcome it as part of the process. It doesn’t mean I’m not ready…it means I’m growing. And honestly, that shift changed everything.
This reminds me of the Bukowski quote: He asked, "What makes a man a writer?" "Well," I said, "it's simple. You either get it down on paper, or jump off a bridge.”
Thank you so much 😊 Yes, what a quote. Bukowski always knew how to slice through the noise. That’s exactly it for me too: writing is how I don’t go numb. It’s not just storytelling, it’s survival. Thank you for seeing that in the piece.
The story you shared hit hard. The world tries to dial everything down; there is a procedure to everything, including protesting; there is grammar to writing and music and you aren't worthwhile if you don't adhere to the "rules". But all that it does is make us feel small and retreat. Enjoyed reading this, thank you!
Yes, exactly that. The world teaches us to shrink before we even know we’re allowed to take up space. The ‘rules’ are often just containers for control, and what they don’t say is how many voices get lost in that silence. I’m so glad the story landed with you. Thank you for reading it with an open heart. ❤️
Beautiful. Also busy healing shame over here, especially the shame that has kept me from sharing my gifts, my creativity and my soul with the world. Starting a substack was my commitment to not live the rest of my life hiding away. The first one I published was the poem I wrote that helped me make peace with the necessary imperfection of creativity. That mannequin in the pothole is the hero I didn’t know I needed. What a metaphor for starting imperfectly.
Hi Allen, so glad it resonated, it was indeed a crazy story and fit perfectly in my theme. Thank you for sharing 😊
Imposter syndrome is a common experience, affecting people across various walks of life.
Remember, experiencing imposter syndrome does not mean you are inadequate; it indicates that you are pushing your boundaries and growing.
We have all gone through it.
By acknowledging these feelings and implementing strategies to address them, you can build confidence and embrace your accomplishments.
Thank you so much for the encouragement and kind words, it truly means a lot. :)

Love this line of yours: the refusal to go numb.
